not as a blanket, but specifically to help domestic industry. and the needs of domestic industry should be determined through a board of industry and union representatives to ensure both business owners and their employees have an equal say

I believe that it shouldn't the government bringing in imports at least, but rather its the people buying stuff only sold overseas and having it arrive at their houses

Yes, but only where it's clear the products are cheaper due to lower welfare and human rights situations in the country of origin.
I'd prefer to see a 'Humanitarian tariff' applied such that it enabled production and sale locally at minimal cost, encouraging both sides to lift their game, capital investment, people investment, innovation etc.
So T-shirts from Bangladesh are cheap because labour there is basically slave labour, so low paid it's ridiculous.

Yes, but only on a selective basis. Tariffs should be applied strategically, as overly broad tariffs can harm domestic industries, while a lack of protection can undermine them.
