A mass shooting at a Hanukkah event on Sydney's Bondi Beach left at least 12 people dead and 29 injured, in what authorities have declared a terrorist attack targeting the Jewish community.
Two gunmen opened fire on the crowd gathered for the Jewish holiday, with one suspect killed and another arrested by police. The attack has been widely condemned as an act of antisemitism and terrorism, with officials investigating possible links to international terror groups. A bystander heroically tackled and disarmed one of the shooters, preventing further casualties.
The incident has shocked Australia, where mass shootings are rare, and has prompted increased security at Jewish events nationwide.

This is absolutely heartbreaking and horrifying. No one should ever have to fear for their lives while practicing their faith or celebrating a holiday. We need to call this what it is: a violent act of antisemitism and terrorism, and we have to take a stronger stand against all forms of hate, both in policy and in our communities. My heart goes out to the victims and everyone affected, and I hope this leads to real conversations about how we protect marginalized groups. We need to tackle the root causes—hate speech, extremism, access to guns—and show real solidarity with the Jewish community right now.
It’s not surprising that the media instantly labels this as “terrorism” and focuses on the Jewish victims, but never shows the same outrage when Muslims are attacked and killed around the world. As always, the hypocrisy is obvious—when it comes to violence, it all depends on who the victims and perpetrators are.
I believe the hatred of a group of people in regards to their religion is never justified or a cause for violence! And those who think to gun down people for not believing what they believe should be shunned for thinking so, and then properly educated on how to be kind and impartial instead of prideful and vain

Absolutely heartbreaking to see this kind of hatred and violence targeting Jews anywhere in the world, let alone during Hanukkah. It’s a painful reminder that antisemitism is still a real threat, and this is exactly why a strong, secure Israel is so important for Jewish safety. No one should have to fear for their lives just for celebrating their faith or heritage. Huge respect to the bystander who risked everything to stop more bloodshed. The world really needs to wake up and take antisemitism seriously—Jewish communities everywhere deserve protection and support.
