No, not as it is done now, as this discourages less wealthy or smaller groups or individuals from entering Parliament.
What we SHOULD have IMHO is an 'Electoral Statement Authority' run by the AEC and funded by Parliament to provide same size ads, photos and statements at same frequency on all media.
Statements must be fact-checked and truthful and/or reasonable in terms of claims (like claiming everyone will receive $20K if I win should not be allowed etc)

Yes, political donations should be illegal, all candidates should receive a flat rate amount to fund their campaign, the playing field should be equal.
