No, but depends on the limit. If the limit was over one year consistently (have to have a break from short-term renting for 6 months) then thats fine but if it was less than no. I believe that we should limit the amount of foreign investors buying property to none or taxing them immensely. Also build more quality, safe and affordable homes that offer potential investment growth for young middle class families not just cheap townhouses built by corner cutting developers predominantly from foreign nations.

All short-term internet-based lets should be banned entirely, as they are distorting the rental market unfairly, and are not being 'priced' correctly against existing accommodation forms that are being undercut and so penalised by the ongoing existence of this curse. I would exempt the original format 'hosted' units or guest nights, but not the 'whole of dwelling' short term lets. In every LGA in Australia these are between 3 and 8% of total rental stock, and most SHOULD be in the open long-term rental market, which would bring down rental pricing and make housing more affordable.
THAT should be the watchword. Leave accommodation to the hotels and motels who pay the appropriate charges and taxes. Banning them would IMMEDIATELY solve the rental issue, nation-wide.
