In 2005, Helios Airways Flight 522, a Boeing 737, crashed after flying on autopilot for over two hours with nearly everyone on board unconscious due to a pressurization error.
The crew failed to set the pressurization switch correctly, causing a lack of oxygen and resulting in hypoxia for passengers and crew. Only one person briefly regained consciousness but was unable to save the flight. The plane eventually crashed near Grammatiko, Greece, killing all 121 people on board.
The disaster highlighted critical issues in airline safety protocols and crew training.
