The Barbados threadsnake, the world's smallest-known snake, has been rediscovered in Barbados after nearly two decades without a confirmed sighting.
Measuring just about 10 centimeters (4 inches) long and as thin as a strand of spaghetti, the snake was feared extinct by scientists after years of fruitless searches. Its rediscovery came after conservationists overturned hundreds of rocks in the forests of Barbados, finally spotting the elusive reptile. The species had been listed among thousands of 'lost to science' animals, plants, and fungi.
This find brings hope for the survival of other rare and elusive species and highlights the importance of ongoing conservation efforts.
