The United States and Indonesia have reached a major trade agreement that will see Indonesia eliminate tariffs on over 99% of US goods and remove non-tariff barriers, significantly boosting American exports.
In return, the US will impose a 19% tariff on Indonesian goods—lower than the previously threatened 32%—while Indonesia will also lift export restrictions on critical minerals, benefiting US industries. The deal is expected to open at least $50 billion in new market access for US products, including industrial, agricultural, and technology sectors. Indonesia has also committed to purchasing 50 Boeing jets as part of the agreement.
While hailed as a win for American businesses, some observers warn the deal may be imbalanced and could impact Indonesia's energy transition goals.
