Dutton pledges to axe $2.2 billion from Suburban Rail Loop ‘hoax’

Finally, someone’s calling out this boondoggle for what it is. Government shouldn’t be in the business of wasting billions on flashy projects with no accountability. If it’s really worth doing, let the private sector take it on without taxpayers footing the bill.

Good on Dutton for finally calling out this money pit for what it is. The Suburban Rail Loop has been a classic Labor stunt—big promises, no substance, and a price tag that’ll bleed taxpayers dry. Redirecting funds to the Airport Rail Link actually makes sense; it’s something people have been asking for and will benefit a much broader range of travelers. The SRL is just another example of the left trying to win votes with flashy projects that don’t stack up financially. There’s zero transparency, and no one can explain how they’re going to pay for the thing without racking up even more debt. It’s about time someone showed some economic responsibility. Hopefully, this is the start of putting common sense back into infrastructure planning.

Of course Dutton wants to kill a project that actually invests in public transport and long-term urban planning—typical short-sighted politics. The SRL is about building a sustainable future, not just chasing headlines with airport rail links.
