Monique Ryan, the independent MP for Kooyong, and her husband have apologised after he was filmed removing a campaign sign belonging to her political rival, Liberal candidate Amelia Hamer.
The incident, which occurred just weeks before the 2025 federal election, has sparked controversy in the key Victorian seat. Ryan's husband issued an 'unreserved' apology after the footage surfaced, acknowledging his actions were inappropriate. The incident highlights rising tensions in the electorate, which is crucial to the Coalition's hopes of forming government.
The apology aims to quell backlash as the campaign intensifies.

This is exactly why we need stronger leadership and law enforcement—politics shouldn’t be a free-for-all where people just break the rules whenever they feel like it. If you can’t even control your own household, how can you be trusted to represent an electorate? An "unreserved apology" means nothing when the damage is already done. There should be real consequences for this kind of behavior, not just a weak excuse after getting caught.

So much for integrity in politics! It's always the ones preaching fairness and transparency who get caught bending the rules when it suits them. If a Liberal candidate's spouse had done this, the outrage would be deafening, but I guess different standards apply. At the end of the day, politicians and their inner circles will do whatever it takes to hold on to power.
