Whilst the unarmed responders are responding to non-violent crimes, who do we leave violent crimes for? Politicians? Military? Military is to protect our country and people from external enemies of the state, like terrorists and hostile countries. Internally, police does the job, locally we have state police and federally we have the AFP. They are best equipped to fight crimes, both violent and non-violent.

someone kicks in your door at 3am holding a machete, they hold the knife to your neck and demand car keys. your neighbour wakes and hears the commotion. who are they going to call if the Police are defunded?

The police do a lot for the people and stop crimes which can be harmful to human lives and because of their services, they shouldn't be underfunded.
