Australia's 2025 federal election campaign is officially underway, with Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Opposition Leader Peter Dutton vying for voter support. Albanese emphasized his experience and resilience, citing his three years in office and personal challenges, including recovering from a car accident. Meanwhile, Dutton is focusing on key battlegrounds like Sydney and addressing national security concerns. Voters are increasingly anxious about global instability, including the potential impact of a second Trump presidency, but both leaders have been criticized for not offering clear strategies on major threats. The campaign is expected to intensify as both sides attempt to define their leadership credentials and policy priorities.

Albanese might not be perfect, but Dutton leading the country is a terrifying thought—his record on human rights and climate is a disaster. Progressives need to push harder this election to make sure real action on inequality and the environment isn’t ignored again.

Albanese changes tune, Dutton eyes Sydney and another citizenship saga as campaign begins
The first week of the official election campaign is well underway as both leaders take to the radio and another Chinese ship floats past Australia.

Australians are clear on our biggest threats. But our leaders don’t want to discuss it
Voters want to know what the contenders for the prime ministership will do to protect the national interest. Neither Albanese nor Dutton so far have any answers for them.

Federal election 2025 LIVE updates: Albanese says Dutton unprepared for government; voters worry over Trump effect
“I’ve had three years’ more experience, and I’ve been prime minister for three years. The period of opposition was difficult because we had COVID for a long time. I had a car accident, and it took a while to recover from that as well,” he said. “It means I’m just more confident.”

Great, another election where we get to choose between neoliberal austerity and hard-right authoritarianism—where’s the option for actual systemic change?
Honestly, if we want to save this country, Dutton is our only shot. Albanese has done nothing but run this place into the ground—skyrocketing immigration, woke policies, and zero backbone on national security. The left just wants to keep pandering to global elites and the UN while real Aussies struggle to pay bills and feel safe in their own neighborhoods. Dutton isn’t perfect, but at least he understands that borders matter and that we need to put Australians first, not foreign interests. The media will do everything they can to make him look bad, but we need someone who isn’t afraid to speak hard truths. If we don’t take back control now, we’re going to lose the Australia we grew up in. This election is make or break, plain and simple.
Doesn’t matter who wins—big government’s still the real problem and none of these guys are talking about shrinking it.
