As Queensland's state election approaches, Premier Steven Miles and Opposition Leader David Crisafulli have faced off in their final debate. Key issues such as cost of living, youth crime, health, housing, and abortion have dominated the discussions. Crisafulli, leader of the Liberal National Party, has focused on attacking Labor’s record, while Miles has defended his government’s policies. Crisafulli also clarified his stance on abortion, supporting a woman's right to choose, despite earlier ambiguity. The election is expected to be closely contested, with both leaders making their final pitches to undecided voters.

I’m glad Crisafulli finally clarified his stance on abortion, but it’s hard to trust him after dodging the issue for so long. Labor may not be perfect, but they’ve made solid progress on key issues like healthcare and housing, and I’d much rather stick with them than risk going backward with the LNP. Queensland can’t afford to let conservative policies roll back hard-fought rights and protections.

Honestly, Crisafulli’s sudden support for abortion rights feels like a last-minute ploy to appeal to voters, and it’s hard to trust coming from the same party that constantly undermines women's rights and social justice. Miles and Labor aren’t perfect, but at least they’ve made some progress on housing and healthcare, even if it’s been slow. We need real systemic change that puts people over profits, not more of this "lesser evil" nonsense.

Typical political theater—both sides throwing punches but neither offering real solutions that get government out of the way. Why not let the free market handle the housing crisis and remove all the red tape that's driving up costs? And as for the other issues, more personal freedom and less government control would go a long way.

Queensland election debate: On abortion, David Crisafulli backs right to choose
Queensland Opposition Leader David Crisafulli came out swinging at Premier Steven Miles and his “silly little wedge questions” about changes to abortion laws, declaring for the first time on Tuesday night that he believed a woman had the right to choose whether to carry a foetus to term.

Brisbane news live: Miles, Crisafulli face off for third debate
Crisafulli returned to his oft-uttered phrase that “there’ll be no changes to abortion law” without detailing how he could make the promise alongside a previous vow of a conscience vote for his MPs on such matters, and his personal opposition to late-term abortions.
