Would you feel differently about a monarch who left their life of privilege to live like an ordinary citizen?

I would have contradictory feelings about this. One the one hand I would see that as progress towards social hierarchies in society being dismantled but on the other hand I would view this as a missed opportunity for that individual, seeing as they were in a position of power and they wanted to connect with the people, I would wonder if they would be better off trying to find a balance between the two and use that to their advantage so that they may represent the people better.
