Learn more about Overthrow of Assad
In September 2015 foreign minister Julie Bishop announced that Australia would no longer support the overthrow of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. Bishop explained that Assad's government and military would be needed to help prevent the spread of ISIS in the region and removing him would further destabilise the region. Opponents of the decision, including the Labor party, argue that Australia should not be picking sides in the Syrian conflict. See recent President Assad news

No it is not our right to overthrow a foreign government, we should give the people all the assistance they need to self govern and remove power structures. 3 years ago from a Green in Hornsby
Why overthrow Assad and let the USA install a puppett just so genie energy (owned by rothschild murdoch and cheney) can mine the golan heights. 3 years ago from a Green in Melbourne
Australia should never have supported Assad! The people were trying to overthrow the governemnt back in 2011 and we helped to stop them. Now look where it has taken us. Assad should not be in power and the Syrian people should be assisted to overthrow him. 3 years ago from a Green in Perth
Never. Even the "70,000 civilian deaths" figure quoted on this very survey is a lie and a perfect example of the anti-Assad propaganda our USA-run media is saturated with. 3 years ago from a Green in Wantirna South
