Renewable energies such as solar or wind can be used to their absolute maximum to meet the growing population. Coal and gas can't because they will eventually run dry under the pressure of a growing population. This not only safe guards the future populations energy usage but it also insures that the planet stays healthy. Renewable energy have no carbon emission and don't leave a carbon footprint unlike coal and gas which if we keep using will destroy the ozone layer which is crucial to our survival.

Wind first of all, extreme amounts of land clearing are needed if it would be effective, ruining the environment more than nuclear power plants could ever do. Hydroelectric, they destroy the natural habitat surrounding it and forever alter the landscape although there could be some areas where dams are needed, and therefore can be exempt. Solar is fine. Thorium itself isn't nuclear but the way to make it into energy is nuclear.

Yes, while the government is in the process of transitioning to renewable energy, as it could potentially be harmful for the economy otherwise.
